Originally, the King Cruiser was an 85-metre passenger ferry running between Phuket and the Phi Phi islands. On 4 May 1997, it strayed off its usual course and struck the reef known as Anemone Reef. The ship sank in less than an hour, but fortunately all passengers were rescued in time.
Years later, the King Cruiser wreck offers Phuket's diving community a beautiful wreck teeming with extremely diverse marine life. Now a true artificial reef, it shelters clouds of lionfish, nudibranchs and sometimes even a sea turtle that has made its home inside the structure.
During your dive you will explore the upper decks of the ferry. You will be captivated by the lush underwater growth that has overtaken the wreck. Be careful though: the action of the sea and time contributes to its decline and it is no longer safe to venture inside the wreck.
One of the most exciting attractions is encountering pelagic fish such as barracudas and giant trevallies. You may also meet shyer creatures like ghost pipefish, cuttlefish, batfish, lionfish and scorpionfish — and occasionally a passing whale shark!
