Phuket's dive sites
Phuket island is a world-renowned diving destination: its waters are home to some of the most spectacular dive sites on the planet, accessible to all levels.
Phuket offers around ten dive sites, located south and east of the island, towards Phi Phi. Wreck, walls, pinnacles, coral gardens: the sites are accessible to all levels. Sometimes one or two mantas come to enjoy the currents at the southern tip of Racha Noi, schools of fish swarm at Anemone Reef and Shark Point where zebra sharks are frequently seen, macro life hides in the crevices of the Koh Doc Mai wall, while the King Cruiser wreck is home to numerous batfish, lionfish, scorpionfish, turtles — and occasionally a passing whale shark.
The coral gardens of Racha Yai are the perfect site for beginner courses and non-divers who want to enjoy the show with a mask and snorkel. Most sites are shared with Phi Phi island, being equidistant from both islands.
Good to know: not everyone spells Thai island names the same way. Racha is also spelled Rajah or Raya, Phi Phi can be spelled Pee-Pee. A few useful words: "Ao" means bay, "Koh" island, "Hin" rock, "Yai" big and "Noi" small.
